Who won the first Premier League Golden Glove award in 2004-05?
Answer
Petr Cech
Answer
Petr Cech
Petr Čech won the first Premier League Golden Glove award in 2004–05.
The Chelsea goalkeeper kept 24 clean sheets during his debut Premier League season, helping José Mourinho’s side win the league title. Chelsea conceded only 15 goals, then a competition record, and finished eight points clear of Arsenal.
The Golden Glove recognises the goalkeeper who keeps the most clean sheets in a Premier League season. It began in 2004–05, although the award’s sponsorship name has changed several times. Čech’s 24 clean sheets remain one of the competition’s standout goalkeeping totals.
A common mix-up is Pepe Reina, who won the award in each of his first three Liverpool seasons from 2005–06 through 2007–08. Edwin van der Sar also won later, but Čech was the inaugural recipient.
