Chelsea won the 2009–10 Premier League title under manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti took charge in the summer of 2009 after leaving AC Milan and guided Chelsea to their third Premier League championship. Chelsea finished with 86 points, one ahead of Manchester United, after winning 27 of their 38 league matches.
The campaign was an attacking landmark for the club. Chelsea scored 103 league goals, becoming the first English top-flight team since Tottenham Hotspur in 1962–63 to reach 100 league goals in a season. Didier Drogba led the scoring with 29 league goals, while Frank Lampard added 22.
Chelsea also won the FA Cup, defeating Portsmouth 1–0 in the final, to complete the first league-and-FA Cup double in the club’s history. That combination of league success, record scoring and cup victory made Ancelotti’s first Chelsea season one of the most celebrated in the club’s history.
