Who won the first Olympic women’s triple-jump title at Atlanta 1996?
Answer
Inessa Kravets
Answer
Inessa Kravets
Inessa Kravets won the first Olympic women’s triple-jump title at Atlanta 1996.
Representing Ukraine, Kravets won with a jump of 15.33 metres. Women’s triple jump made its Olympic debut at the Atlanta Games, although the event had already been contested at world championships and other international meetings.
Kravets was a major figure in the event and set the women’s triple-jump world record at 15.50 m in 1995. That mark stood for many years before the event’s modern record progression continued.
The event’s three phases are the hop, step and jump. It is distinct from the long jump, where competitors perform one take-off and one landing. Yulimar Rojas is a later Olympic champion, not the first one.
