Who was Twitter’s chief executive when the company returned to the public markets in 2013?

The story behind the answer

Dick Costolo was Twitter’s chief executive when the company returned to the public markets in 2013.

Costolo became Twitter’s CEO in October 2010, succeeding Evan Williams. Before joining Twitter, he had co-founded FeedBurner, a web-feed management company that Google acquired in 2007.

Under Costolo, Twitter prepared for its initial public offering. The company filed confidentially for an IPO in 2013 under the provisions of the JOBS Act and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in November of that year.

Jack Dorsey, one of Twitter’s co-founders, was chairman during the IPO period and later returned as CEO in 2015. Because Dorsey was a prominent Twitter co-founder and executive, he is sometimes incorrectly named as the CEO at the time of the 2013 listing.
