What was Twitter’s 2010 annual conference for developers called?

The story behind the answer

Twitter called its 2010 annual developer conference Chirp.

Chirp was held in San Francisco in April 2010. The event gave Twitter a formal setting to discuss its application programming interfaces, developer ecosystem, and plans for integrating outside software with the service. Twitter’s early growth had been closely connected to third-party applications, mobile clients, and websites that used its APIs.

The conference name referred to the sound associated with Twitter’s bird imagery. Chirp became an important marker in the company’s platform history because Twitter used it to explain technical changes and its relationship with developers who built products around tweets.

Chirp is not the same event as Flight. Twitter used Flight for its 2014 developer conference, after the company had changed its developer-event branding and expanded its focus to products such as Fabric. Both names are therefore associated with Twitter’s developer outreach, but Chirp specifically refers to the 2010 conference.
