The letter X became the main symbol of the service formerly known as Twitter in 2023.
After Elon Musk acquired Twitter in October 2022, the company began replacing Twitter branding with the letter X. In July 2023, the familiar blue bird identity was removed from the service’s branding, and the platform adopted the name X.
The change was part of Musk’s broader plan to develop an “everything app” under the X brand. The transition affected the logo, terminology, and corporate presentation, although many users continued to use older Twitter vocabulary in everyday conversation.
A common mix-up is treating X as merely a new logo. The rebrand also involved the platform’s public name and the company’s wider branding strategy, while the website continued to be accessible through the legacy twitter.com domain for a period.
