Who was the first host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show?

Craig Kilborn was the first host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show.

The program debuted on July 22, 1996, with Kilborn as presenter. Its original format was a satirical news show that combined anchors, correspondents, comedy reports, and commentary on current events. Kilborn hosted until 1998, when he left to pursue other television work.

Jon Stewart replaced Kilborn in January 1999 and became the host most strongly associated with the series. Under Stewart, The Daily Show placed greater emphasis on political satire and media criticism, later winning major awards and influencing a generation of comedy-news programs.

Trevor Noah succeeded Stewart in 2015. Stephen Colbert was a prominent correspondent and later received The Colbert Report, but he was never the original host of The Daily Show. The show's title has remained essentially the same even as its hosts and editorial emphasis changed.
