Matthias Jaissle was listed as Newcastle United’s manager for the 2026–27 Premier League opener against Liverpool.
Newcastle hosted Liverpool at St James’ Park on Sunday 23 August 2026. The season personnel table named Jaissle as Newcastle’s manager for the campaign, including the opening fixture.
Jaissle is a German coach whose appointment followed Eddie Howe’s departure from Newcastle. The change meant the Liverpool match was the club’s first Premier League fixture under its new manager.
The name can be confused with other managers in the opening round, including Andoni Iraola at Liverpool and Oliver Glasner at Nottingham Forest. The question specifically identifies Newcastle’s manager, so the correct answer is the coach listed for the home side.
