Who was Instagram’s chief executive when Facebook agreed to acquire it?
Answer
Kevin Systrom
Answer
Kevin Systrom
Kevin Systrom was Instagram’s chief executive when Facebook agreed to acquire the company.
Systrom co-founded Instagram with Mike Krieger in 2010 and served as its chief executive from the company’s creation until 2018. Under his leadership, Instagram grew from a small iPhone photo app into a major social platform with millions of users.
Facebook announced its agreement to acquire Instagram in April 2012. Systrom supported the transaction and continued to lead Instagram after the acquisition, while Facebook said the service would remain independently branded and operated.
Mike Krieger was Instagram’s co-founder and chief technology officer, not its chief executive. Adam Mosseri became Instagram’s head years later, after Systrom and Krieger left in 2018. Mark Zuckerberg led Facebook and later Meta, but he was not Instagram’s CEO at the time of the acquisition.
