Meta’s artificial-intelligence assistant available across its consumer apps is Meta AI.
Meta AI is an AI assistant developed by Meta Platforms and built using the company’s large-language-model research. Meta introduced the assistant to users through products such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, with availability and capabilities varying by country and platform.
The assistant can answer questions, generate or summarize text, help with recommendations, and support image-generation features in selected experiences. It is distinct from Meta’s research organization and from the company’s open-source Llama model family, although Llama technology has been used in Meta’s AI systems.
The name can cause confusion because Meta also uses “AI” for a broad range of recommendation, advertising, safety, and research technologies. “Meta AI” specifically refers to the consumer-facing assistant and related product experience.
