Which company developed the Facebook Home mobile software released in 2013?

The story behind the answer

Facebook developed the Facebook Home mobile software released in 2013.

Facebook Home was an Android software layer introduced in April 2013. Rather than functioning as a conventional standalone app, it replaced parts of the Android home-screen experience with Facebook content, including a feature called Cover Feed for displaying photos and posts.

Facebook presented Home as a way to put people and social updates at the center of a smartphone. It was initially associated with the HTC First, an Android phone marketed with Facebook Home preinstalled. The software could also be installed on selected Android devices.

Facebook Home was not the same product as Facebook Messenger or the later Facebook Portal hardware. Its limited adoption meant that Facebook eventually reduced its emphasis on the home-screen replacement concept, but the launch showed the company’s ambition to make Facebook a central mobile interface.
