Sergej Jakirović was Hull City manager when they beat Manchester United on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Jakirović oversaw Hull’s return to the top division after the club spent nine years outside the Premier League. His side responded to the occasion with a disciplined 2–0 victory at the MKM Stadium.
The result also gave Jakirović a notable piece of football history: he became the first Bosnian manager to win a Premier League match. Hull captain Lewie Coyle praised the team’s character after the victory.
The manager is easy to confuse with the opposing coach, Michael Carrick, who was in charge of Manchester United. Gary O’Neil managed another promoted club, Ipswich Town, while Oliver Glasner led Nottingham Forest during the opening weekend.
