Who was Djokovic's opponent in the 2024 Olympic men's singles final?
Answer
Carlos Alcaraz
Answer
Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz was Djokovic’s opponent in the 2024 Olympic men’s singles final.
Djokovic defeated Spain’s Alcaraz 7–6, 7–6 on August 4, 2024, at Roland Garros in Paris. Both sets were decided by tiebreaks, and Djokovic won the match without dropping a set. The victory gave him his first Olympic gold medal and Serbia’s first Olympic tennis gold.
The final was a rematch of the 2024 Wimbledon final, which Alcaraz had won in straight sets. Their Olympic meeting therefore carried an extra layer of rivalry: Alcaraz was seeking another major victory over Djokovic, while Djokovic was pursuing the one major achievement missing from his résumé.
The result also completed Djokovic’s career Golden Slam, joining Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal and Steffi Graf among singles players to win all four major championships and Olympic gold. Alcaraz took silver, while Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti won bronze. Alexander Zverev, the defending Olympic champion, lost to Musetti in the quarterfinals.
