Which Italian won bronze in the 2024 Olympic men's singles event where Djokovic won gold?

The story behind the answer

Lorenzo Musetti won bronze in the 2024 Olympic men's singles event, where Novak Djokovic won gold.

Musetti secured the bronze medal at Roland Garros in Paris on 3 August 2024 by defeating Canada's Félix Auger-Aliassime 6–4, 1–6, 6–3. The result gave Italy its second Olympic tennis medal and its first in 100 years in the men's singles event.

The Italian had reached the semifinals by defeating defending Olympic champion Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. He then lost to Carlos Alcaraz, who went on to win silver after Djokovic defeated him in the gold-medal match.

Djokovic's victory over Alcaraz, 7–6 (7–3), 7–6 (7–2), delivered Serbia's first Olympic tennis gold medal and completed Djokovic's career Golden Slam. Musetti's bronze is sometimes overlooked because the final was one of the tournament's biggest stories, but the bronze-medal match is a separate contest between the two losing semifinalists.
