Victor Lindelöf was credited with Aston Villa’s own goal in Brighton’s 4–0 opening-weekend win in 2026–27. The defender’s own goal was one of Brighton’s four goals in the first 31 minutes.
Jack Hinshelwood scored twice in the early burst, while Maxim De Cuyper added another goal. Lindelöf’s unfortunate touch completed Brighton’s four-goal surge before half-time and helped establish the result as one of the weekend’s biggest victories.
Brighton did not add to the score after the break, but the first-half performance remained historically notable. Brighton became only the fourth team to score four first-half goals in a Premier League Matchweek 1, following Bolton Wanderers in 2001, Manchester United in 2007 and Liverpool in 2020.
