Who voices Rayman in the English version of Rayman 2?

The story behind the answer

David Gasman voices Rayman in the English version of Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Gasman, an American actor living and working in France, supplied Rayman’s English voice for the 1999 game and also voiced Polokus, the spirit at the center of Rayman’s world.

Rayman 2 was a major change for the series: the 1995 original was a 2D platformer, while The Great Escape moved the hero into a fully 3D adventure. Its story follows Rayman’s fight against Admiral Razorbeard and the robotic pirates who invade the Glade of Dreams. Gasman’s performance helped give the otherwise largely silent, cartoon-like hero a recognizable English voice.

A common mix-up is confusing Rayman’s actor with the performers who voiced other characters or with later games. Globox, for example, has a different English voice credit in some versions, while Murfy’s English voice is associated especially with Rayman 3. Gasman continued to appear in later Rayman projects, making him closely associated with the character across the franchise.
