In the original Rayman game, what magical orb keeps Rayman's valley in harmony?

The story behind the answer

In the original Rayman game, the Great Protoon is the magical orb that keeps Rayman’s valley in harmony. Its presence maintains balance between nature and the people living in the valley, making it the central object of the game’s opening crisis.

The villain Mr. Dark steals the Great Protoon and defeats its guardian, Betilla the Fairy. Without the orb, the Electoons lose their stability, scatter throughout the valley, and are captured by enemies. Betilla calls on Rayman to recover the Protoon and rescue the imprisoned Electoons.

Released in 1995, Rayman is a 2D platformer created by Michel Ancel and published by Ubi Soft. Players travel through themed worlds, gain abilities, defeat bosses, and search for hidden Electoon cages. The Ubi Key is instead a feature associated with certain Game Boy Color versions, while Silver Lums belong to Rayman 2. The Great Protoon is therefore the canonical answer for the original game.
