Beyoncé voices the adult Nala in the 2019 film The Lion King.
Directed by Jon Favreau, The Lion King is a photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney’s 1994 traditionally animated film. Beyoncé’s casting was announced in November 2017, and she provides the voice for Nala, Simba’s childhood friend and eventual queen.
Donald Glover voices Simba, while James Earl Jones reprises his role as Mufasa from the original film. Chiwetel Ejiofor voices Scar, and Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner voice Pumbaa and Timon.
Beyoncé also contributed new music to the film and performed “Spirit,” an original song released as part of the film’s music campaign. The movie premiered in Los Angeles on July 9, 2019, and was released in the United States on July 19, 2019.
