Who voiced Scar?

Who voiced Scar? Jeremy Irons voiced Scar in Disney’s 1994 animated film The Lion King.

Irons brought a theatrical, Shakespearean quality to the scheming younger brother of Mufasa. His distinctive delivery helped make Scar one of Disney’s most recognizable villains, and the animators drew on Irons’s appearance and mannerisms when developing the character.

A common mix-up concerns Scar’s singing voice in “Be Prepared.” Irons recorded much of the character’s dialogue and song, but Jim Cummings completed portions of the musical number after Irons strained his voice. That does not change the film’s credited voice actor: Irons is Scar’s principal speaking performer.

The answer applies specifically to the original 1994 film. Chiwetel Ejiofor voiced Scar in the 2019 photorealistic remake, while other performers have portrayed the character in television series, games, and later productions.
