What is the name of the song Scar sings about his plans?

Scar sings “Be Prepared” to reveal and rally support for his plans to seize the throne in The Lion King.

The villain number appears after Scar has recruited the hyenas as allies. Its militaristic staging presents the hyenas as an organized force while Scar promises them a future of power and prosperity under his rule. The song foreshadows the coup that leads to Mufasa’s death and Simba’s exile.

“Be Prepared” was written by lyricist Tim Rice and composer Elton John for Disney’s 1994 animated film. Jeremy Irons provided Scar’s speaking voice and is credited with the performance, while Jim Cummings completed parts of the singing after Irons experienced vocal difficulty during recording.

The song is often confused with the film’s other major musical numbers. “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” belongs to Simba, “Hakuna Matata” is associated with Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa, and “Circle of Life” opens the film.
