Who voiced Mike Wazowski in Monsters, Inc.?

Billy Crystal voiced Mike Wazowski in Monsters, Inc.

Mike is the small, green, one-eyed monster who works alongside James P. Sullivan, or Sulley. Although Sulley is the company’s leading scarer, Mike is his quick-witted assistant, roommate, coach, and closest friend. His comic timing and energetic delivery are central to the character’s personality.

Crystal’s performance began with Pixar’s 2001 feature Monsters, Inc. and continued in Monsters University, later shorts, and the Disney+ series Monsters at Work. Mike’s full name is Michael Wazowski, and he is depicted as ambitious, competitive, stubborn, and highly organized.

A common mix-up is confusing Mike’s voice with those of his co-stars. John Goodman voices Sulley, Steve Buscemi voices Randall Boggs, and Frank Oz is not Mike’s principal film voice. Crystal also previously turned down the role of Buzz Lightyear, a decision he later mentioned when discussing why Mike suited him so well.
