Who voiced Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story films?

Who voiced Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story films? Tim Allen. He supplied Buzz Lightyear’s voice in the Toy Story feature films, beginning with the original 1995 movie and continuing through Toy Story 4.

Buzz is an action figure who believes he is a real Space Ranger when he first arrives in Andy’s bedroom. That mistaken identity creates his rivalry with Woody, who fears that the new toy will replace him as Andy’s favorite. As Buzz discovers that he is a toy, the two characters gradually become close friends and partners.

Tim Allen’s performance helped define Buzz as confident, theatrical, and unintentionally funny. Pixar wanted the character to have a macho exterior with a softer, everyday personality underneath. Allen’s voice also contrasted neatly with Tom Hanks’s portrayal of Woody, making the pair’s arguments and eventual loyalty central to the franchise.

A common mix-up comes from the 2022 film Lightyear. Chris Evans voices that film’s in-universe version of the space hero, not the toy character in the Toy Story films. Tim Allen remains the voice associated with the Toy Story Buzz.
