Who scored the first goal of the 2026–27 Premier League season?

The story behind the answer

Kai Havertz scored the first goal of the 2026–27 Premier League season. He opened Arsenal’s 3–0 home victory over Coventry City in the campaign’s first match.

Havertz’s goal came before Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard added further Arsenal goals. The sequence gave the defending champions an early advantage against newly promoted Coventry.

The answer is sometimes confused with Saka, who scored Arsenal’s second goal, or Ødegaard, who completed the scoring after halftime. Semi Ajayi was also an opening-weekend scorer, but his goal came for Hull City against Manchester United the following day.

Havertz, a Germany international, joined Arsenal in 2023 after previously playing in the Premier League for Chelsea. His opening-weekend goal made him the first scorer of the new league campaign.
