Who scored the first century in men's T20 Internationals?
Answer
Chris Gayle
Answer
Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle scored the first century in men’s Twenty20 Internationals. He made 117 for the West Indies against South Africa at Johannesburg on 11 September 2007, in the opening match of the inaugural World Twenty20.
Gayle’s innings came from 57 balls and included seven fours and ten sixes. It made him the first player to score a century in all three international formats: Test cricket, One Day Internationals and T20Is. His hundred was especially notable because South Africa won the match despite his record-setting performance.
The achievement is often confused with the first century in domestic T20 cricket or the first century in the Indian Premier League. Those are separate records: T20 cricket existed before T20Is became an established international format, while the IPL began in 2008. Gayle later scored a second T20I century, an unbeaten 100 against England in the 2016 World Twenty20.
