Who took all ten wickets in a Test innings for India against Pakistan in Delhi in 1999?

The story behind the answer

Anil Kumble took all ten wickets in a Test innings for India against Pakistan in Delhi in 1999.

The feat came at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, now known as Arun Jaitley Stadium, during the second Test of Pakistan’s 1999 tour of India. Kumble finished with 10 wickets for 74 runs in Pakistan’s second innings, dismissing every batter himself rather than sharing the wickets with a teammate.

Kumble became only the second bowler in Test history to take all ten wickets in an innings. England’s Jim Laker had achieved it against Australia at Old Trafford in 1956, taking 10 for 53. Kumble’s performance therefore joined one of cricket’s rarest records.

India won the match by 212 runs, and Kumble’s figures remain the best innings haul by an Indian bowler in Test cricket. The achievement is sometimes confused with a ten-wicket match haul, but this record specifically means all ten opposing wickets in one innings.
