Who took the first hat-trick in One Day International cricket?
Answer
Jalal-ud-Din
Answer
Jalal-ud-Din
Jalal-ud-Din took the first hat-trick in One Day International cricket.
The Pakistan fast-medium bowler achieved the feat against Australia at Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad, Sindh, on 20 September 1982. His three consecutive victims were Australia’s Rod Marsh, Bruce Yardley and Geoff Lawson, making him the first bowler to complete an ODI hat-trick.
A cricket hat-trick requires three wickets on successive deliveries. The wickets do not have to come in the same over if an interruption occurs between deliveries, but Jalal-ud-Din’s achievement came during Pakistan’s early ODI history, when the format was still developing after its first match in 1971.
The record is often confused with later, more famous ODI hat-tricks. Chaminda Vaas took three wickets with the first three balls of an ODI in 2003, while Wasim Akram and Saqlain Mushtaq each became repeat hat-trick takers. Neither, however, was the first ODI hat-trick bowler.
