Joško Gvardiol scored Manchester City’s stoppage-time winner against Bournemouth on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Bournemouth led for much of the match after Marcus Tavernier scored in the 26th minute. Manchester City eventually equalised through Marc Guéhi’s header before Gvardiol completed a late turnaround.
The match ended 2–1 to City at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday 23 August 2026. Rayan Cherki, introduced from the bench, supplied assists for both of City’s goals and played a decisive role in the comeback.
The victory began Enzo Maresca’s reign as Manchester City manager. It also ended Bournemouth’s 18-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, making Gvardiol’s late strike important beyond the opening-weekend scoreline.
