Dominik Szoboszlai scored Liverpool’s 99th-minute penalty in the 2–2 draw at Newcastle during the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The match was played at St James’ Park on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Newcastle led twice, but Liverpool equalised in the ninth minute of stoppage time when Szoboszlai converted from the penalty spot.
Anthony Elanga opened the scoring for Newcastle after only five minutes, while Cody Gakpo equalised in the second half. Joe Willock then restored Newcastle’s lead before Szoboszlai’s late penalty secured a point for Liverpool.
The fixture also featured tributes to Kevin Keegan, who had played for and managed Newcastle and had also represented Liverpool. Alexander Isak, who had moved from Newcastle to Liverpool the previous summer, was booed by the home crowd.
