Semi Ajayi scored Hull City’s 17th-minute opener against Manchester United in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
The goal came at MKM Stadium on 22 August 2026, as Hull returned to the Premier League after a nine-year absence. Ajayi reacted quickest after Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens tipped Oli McBurnie’s effort onto the post.
Hull doubled its advantage before half-time through Nobel Mendy, who headed in Regan Slater’s free-kick. The 2–0 victory was Hull’s first top-flight win over Manchester United and its first league victory against the club since 1974.
Ajayi’s goal can be confused with Mendy’s because both Hull scorers found the net before the interval. Ajayi scored first, while Mendy supplied the second goal seven minutes before half-time.
