Kai Havertz scored Arsenal’s opening goal against Coventry City in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
Arsenal defeated Coventry City 3–0 at the Emirates Stadium on Friday 21 August 2026. Havertz opened the scoring before Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard added further goals for the defending champions.
The match was the first fixture of the new Premier League season. Arsenal entered it as champions, while Coventry were newly promoted and were appearing in the top flight after a long absence.
Havertz’s goal helped Arsenal begin their title defence with a convincing win. The scoreline also made Arsenal the first team to record a victory in the 2026–27 Premier League, although other clubs later produced larger winning margins during the weekend.
