Who sang the title song for the James Bond film Goldfinger?

The story behind the answer

Shirley Bassey sang the title song for the James Bond film Goldfinger.

The song was written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse, with John Barry composing the orchestral arrangement. Bassey’s powerful performance became one of the defining musical moments of the Bond series and helped establish the tradition of prominent vocal title songs.

Goldfinger was released in 1964 and was the third official Bond film. Sean Connery played Bond, while Gert Fröbe portrayed the villain Auric Goldfinger. The film was directed by Guy Hamilton and adapted from Ian Fleming’s 1959 novel.

Shirley Bassey later recorded two more Bond title songs: Diamonds Are Forever for the 1971 film and Moonraker for the 1979 film. That repeated association can cause confusion, but Goldfinger is the song most strongly identified with her breakthrough Bond performance.
