Who sang “My Heart Will Go On,” the theme song from James Cameron’s Titanic?

The story behind the answer

Celine Dion sang “My Heart Will Go On,” the theme song from James Cameron’s Titanic.

The song was written by composer James Horner and lyricist Will Jennings. Horner developed its melody for Titanic and initially presented it as an instrumental theme. Director James Cameron later agreed that a vocal song could close the film, although he had concerns that a pop song might feel out of place.

Dion recorded the song as a demo, and that recording became the basis for the final version. It was released in 1997 and became one of the best-known film songs ever made. The lyrics connect the song’s enduring-love theme with Titanic’s central romance.

A common mix-up is crediting the song to the film’s actors, Kate Winslet or Leonardo DiCaprio. Neither performed it. Dion’s recording won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song, as well as four Grammy Awards.
