In James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, who plays the teenage John Connor?

The story behind the answer

In James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Edward Furlong plays the teenage John Connor.

Furlong made his film debut as John Connor, the future leader of humanity’s resistance against Skynet. In the story, John is a rebellious teenager living in Los Angeles with foster parents while his mother, Sarah Connor, is institutionalized.

The role required Furlong to portray John as both a troubled adolescent and a future military figure. His relationship with the reprogrammed T-800 forms the emotional core of the film, as the machine becomes a protector and surrogate father figure.

Edward Furlong played John in Terminator 2, whereas Nick Stahl portrayed the character in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Michael Biehn, another name sometimes associated with the series, played Kyle Reese in the 1984 original rather than John Connor.
