What is the name commonly given to the alien queen in James Cameron’s Aliens?

The story behind the answer

The giant breeding creature in James Cameron’s Aliens is commonly called the Alien Queen.

The Alien Queen is the largest and most imposing xenomorph shown in the film. Ripley discovers her in the hive beneath Hadley’s Hope, where the queen is attached to an egg-laying structure and surrounded by worker aliens. The encounter creates the film’s climactic confrontation between Ripley and the colony’s alien ruler.

Unlike the human characters, the queen is not generally addressed by a spoken personal name in the story. “Alien Queen” is the established production, promotional, fan, and reference term used for the creature. This distinction matters because answers such as “Queen Xenomorph” describe the idea but are not the standard name.

The design was created by Stan Winston’s effects team, with Cameron involved in its conception. The creature became one of the franchise’s most recognizable designs and influenced later depictions of xenomorph biology.
