Who replaced Kylie Minogue as Glastonbury's 2005 Sunday headliner?

The story behind the answer

Who replaced Kylie Minogue as Glastonbury’s 2005 Sunday headliner? Basement Jaxx replaced Kylie Minogue.

Minogue had been booked to headline the Sunday night of the 2005 festival, but withdrew in May after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Festival organisers announced Basement Jaxx as her replacement on 6 June, giving the electronic duo the closing headline slot at Worthy Farm.

The substitution created an affectionate link between the two acts. Basement Jaxx performed a cover of Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” during their set, and Coldplay also played a version during their own appearance. The cover was a clear nod to the artist whose illness had forced her cancellation.

This is sometimes confused with Coldplay because they were also among the major 2005 performers and covered Minogue’s song. They did not replace her, however: Basement Jaxx took over the advertised Sunday headline position. Glastonbury then had a fallow year in 2006, part of the festival’s occasional rest years.
