Nicolas Roeg shared directing credit with Peter Neal on the 1972 film Glastonbury Fayre.
The documentary captures the 1971 Glastonbury Fayre, the second year of the festival, held in Somerset from 20 to 24 June. It combines concert footage with scenes of camping, dancing, communal activities and spiritual gatherings.
Glastonbury Fayre was released in May 1972 and was among the earliest films about the festival. Its performers included Traffic, Fairport Convention, Melanie, Terry Reid, Arthur Brown’s Kingdom Come and Gong.
A common mix-up is confusing the film’s directors with its producers. David Puttnam and Sanford Lieberson produced the film, while Neal and Roeg received the directing credit. Roeg later became known for films such as Walkabout, Don’t Look Now and The Man Who Fell to Earth.
