Who provided the voice of adult Simba?

The story behind the answer

Who provided the voice of adult Simba? Matthew Broderick provided the speaking voice of adult Simba.

Simba is the son of Mufasa and Sarabi and the heir to the Pride Lands. After Scar’s plot causes Mufasa’s death, Simba runs away and grows up far from home. As an adult, he must overcome guilt and return to challenge Scar, reclaiming his role as king.

Broderick was cast early in the film’s production and recorded over roughly three years. The adult Simba role is often confused with the younger versions: Jonathan Taylor Thomas voiced young Simba’s speaking voice, while Jason Weaver supplied the cub’s singing voice. Joseph Williams performed adult Simba’s singing voice, including “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”

That division of vocal roles reflects how animated musicals were produced at the time, with actors selected for both character performance and musical requirements. Broderick’s conversational performance gives adult Simba a reflective, occasionally humorous quality, contrasting with James Earl Jones’s commanding portrayal of Mufasa and Jeremy Irons’s sinister Scar.
