Who played the android Bishop in James Cameron’s film Aliens?

The story behind the answer

Lance Henriksen played the android Bishop in James Cameron’s film Aliens.

Released in 1986, Aliens is a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien. Henriksen’s Bishop is an artificial human working with the colonial marines and civilian specialists sent to investigate the lost colony on LV-426.

Bishop is designed to resemble a human but is identified as an android. His calm behavior initially makes some characters distrust him, especially because the earlier film featured the dangerous android Ash. Bishop’s actions later demonstrate a different relationship between artificial beings and the human crew.

The cast also includes Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley, Michael Biehn as Corporal Dwayne Hicks, and Paul Reiser as Carter Burke. Henriksen later appeared as another android-like character, the prototype T-800, in promotional and story contexts associated with the Terminator series, but Bishop is his Aliens role.
