Who played Rosa Klebb in the James Bond film From Russia with Love?

Lotte Lenya played Rosa Klebb in From Russia with Love.

Released in 1963, From Russia with Love featured Lenya as Rosa Klebb, a former Soviet intelligence officer who works for SPECTRE. Klebb supervises an operation intended to obtain a Soviet cryptographic device and eliminate James Bond.

Lenya was an Austrian-American singer and actress best known internationally for her performances in musical theatre, especially The Threepenny Opera. Her casting gave Klebb a distinctive presence, combining bureaucratic authority with physical menace. The character is also remembered for her poison-tipped footwear.

The film stars Sean Connery as Bond, Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana Romanova and Robert Shaw as assassin Donald Grant. Terence Young directed it, following Dr. No. Rosa Klebb is sometimes confused with other female antagonists in the series, such as Fiona Volpe in Thunderball or Irma Bunt in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
