Beyoncé provided Nala’s speaking and singing voice in Disney’s 2019 film The Lion King.
The film is a photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney’s 1994 traditionally animated feature. Directed by Jon Favreau, it retells the story of Simba, a young lion who must reclaim his place as king after his father’s death. Nala is Simba’s childhood friend and later becomes his partner and queen.
Beyoncé’s cast performance included dialogue and songs. She also contributed to the soundtrack with “Spirit,” an original song connected with the film’s release. Donald Glover voiced Simba, while James Earl Jones returned as Mufasa, the role he had voiced in the 1994 film.
The 2019 production is often called live-action because of its visual style, although its animal characters were created digitally. Nala’s character is not the same as any real historical queen or person; she is a fictional lion from Disney’s story.
