Beyoncé voiced Nala in the 2019 computer-animated film The Lion King.
Directed by Jon Favreau, The Lion King is a photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney’s 1994 traditionally animated film. Nala is a lioness who grows up with Simba and later becomes his partner in restoring the Pride Lands.
Beyoncé joined a voice cast that included Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, and Alfre Woodard as Sarabi. Her casting drew particular attention because Nala has an important role in the film’s emotional and musical story.
Beyoncé also contributed to The Lion King: The Gift, a companion album released in 2019. The album included “Spirit,” an original song associated with the film and nominated for a Grammy Award and a Golden Globe.
