Who played Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s Titanic?

The story behind the answer

Leonardo DiCaprio played Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s Titanic.

Jack is a fictional third-class passenger who boards the RMS Titanic after winning a ticket in a poker game. His relationship with Rose DeWitt Bukater forms the emotional center of the film, which combines their fictional romance with the real ship’s 1912 disaster.

DiCaprio was already known for films including What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Romeo + Juliet, but Titanic made him an international star. Cameron selected him after a screen test that demonstrated the romantic lead’s charm and vulnerability.

Jack Dawson is sometimes mistaken for a historical passenger, but the character was created for the film. The movie does include real figures such as Captain Edward Smith, J. Bruce Ismay, and Margaret Brown alongside its fictional protagonists.
