Who played Ichabod Crane in Tim Burton’s 1999 film Sleepy Hollow?

Johnny Depp played Ichabod Crane in Tim Burton’s 1999 film Sleepy Hollow.

The film reimagines Washington Irving’s 1820 story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” as a gothic mystery. Depp’s Crane is a New York constable sent to investigate a series of murders in the village, where witnesses claim that a headless horseman is responsible.

Unlike Irving’s superstitious schoolmaster, Burton’s protagonist is a police investigator interested in scientific methods and forensic evidence. Christina Ricci plays Katrina Van Tassel, while Christopher Walken appears as the Headless Horseman.

Sleepy Hollow was released in November 1999 and won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction. It is often remembered for its deliberately foggy woodland setting, period costumes, stylized violence, and production design by Rick Heinrichs.
