Statham first appears as Deckard Shaw in a post-credits scene for Fast & Furious 6, where the character is connected to Han Lue’s apparent death. He becomes the central antagonist of Furious 7, pursuing Dominic Toretto’s group after his brother Owen Shaw is defeated.

The character later changes from enemy to uneasy ally. Shaw works with Toretto’s team in The Fate of the Furious and appears alongside Luke Hobbs in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Statham’s casting brought another established action-film star into the franchise’s expanding ensemble.
