Who mastered Metallica's 2021 remastered edition of The Black Album?
Answer
Bob Ludwig
Answer
Bob Ludwig
Bob Ludwig mastered Metallica's 2021 remastered edition of The Black Album.
The remastered edition was released on September 10, 2021, as part of the album's 30th-anniversary campaign. Ludwig handled the mastering at Gateway Mastering, while executive producer Greg Fidelman oversaw the content and broader reissue project.
The expanded release went far beyond a single remastered disc. Its limited box set included the remastered album on a 180-gram double LP and CD, three live LPs, 14 CDs, six DVDs, and additional memorabilia. The package also contained previously unreleased material connected with the album era.
Bob Ludwig is easy to confuse with Bob Rock because both worked on important versions of the record. Rock produced the original 1991 album; Ludwig mastered the 2021 remaster. Greg Fidelman was the reissue's executive producer, not its mastering engineer.
