At which California studio was Metallica’s 1991 album Metallica recorded?
Answer
One on One Studios
Answer
One on One Studios
Metallica recorded its 1991 album Metallica at One on One Studios in North Hollywood, California.
The band worked there with producer Bob Rock and engineer Randy Staub during sessions that extended through 1990 and 1991. One on One offered the space needed for Metallica’s large guitar sound, live-feeling performances, and extensive overdubbing.
The location is sometimes confused with studios associated with the band’s earlier records. Metallica recorded ...And Justice for All at One on One as well, but the Black Album sessions involved a different production approach and much more emphasis on sonic clarity. The album’s drum sound and guitar layering became especially influential.
One on One Studios later appeared in the history of other major rock recordings, but its connection to Metallica is particularly notable because two consecutive studio albums were made there. The facility was located in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.
