Who managed U2 from 1978 until 2013?
Answer
Paul McGuinness
Answer
Paul McGuinness
Paul McGuinness managed U2 from 1978 until 2013.
McGuinness became U2’s manager when the band was still developing in Dublin. He helped guide the group’s move from local performances to international success, overseeing its recording career, tours, business arrangements, and public profile.
His long association with U2 covered the albums from Boy through No Line on the Horizon and major tours including the Joshua Tree, Zoo TV, PopMart, Elevation, Vertigo, and 360° tours. In 2013, management of U2 moved to Guy Oseary.
McGuinness is sometimes confused with the producers and executives who worked on particular albums. Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois produced several important U2 records, but McGuinness’s role was band manager rather than record producer.
