Which U2 album was released in 1997 after the band’s PopMart concept was developed?

The story behind the answer

U2’s 1997 album released alongside the PopMart concept was Pop.

Pop was U2’s ninth studio album and appeared on 3 March 1997. The record continued the band’s electronic and dance-influenced experimentation after Achtung Baby and Zooropa. Its songs included “Discothèque,” “Staring at the Sun,” and “If God Will Send His Angels.”

The album led into the PopMart Tour, an elaborate production featuring a giant lemon-shaped mirror ball, a large golden arch, and a huge video screen. The tour opened in Las Vegas in April 1997 and became one of the band’s most visually ambitious productions.

Pop is sometimes confused with PopMart, but they are different: Pop is the studio album, while PopMart is the concert tour and its associated stage concept. The album title is simply Pop.
