U2 performed “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “Pride (In the Name of Love)” at Live Aid in 1985.
Live Aid was a major benefit concert held on 13 July 1985 to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. It took place simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, with additional linked performances elsewhere.
U2 played at Wembley Stadium. Their set included “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Bad,” and “Pride (In the Name of Love).” During “Bad,” Bono moved into the crowd and danced with a woman, extending the song far beyond its planned length. The performance greatly increased U2’s international profile.
Live Aid is distinct from Live 8, another global benefit concert held in 2005. U2 also performed at Live 8, but that was two decades after their influential Live Aid appearance.
