Andoni Iraola managed Liverpool in their 2026–27 Premier League opening-weekend match at Newcastle United.
Liverpool visited Newcastle United on Sunday, 23 August 2026, in one of the round’s most prominent fixtures. The match finished 2–2, with both teams earning a point from an even contest at St James’ Park.
Iraola’s appointment was part of Liverpool’s managerial change during the 2026 close season. The club’s 2026–27 personnel table lists him as Liverpool’s manager, while the managerial-changes section records Arne Slot as his predecessor and gives 4 June 2026 as Iraola’s appointment date.
The match was also Iraola’s first Premier League game in charge of Liverpool. He had previously managed Bournemouth, but left that position at the end of the 2025–26 season. This makes the Newcastle fixture a useful marker for the beginning of his Liverpool tenure.
